ABOUT THE TEAM
The BAJA SAE collegiate design series is one of the numerous international engineering events organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The Baja ÉTS team has been participating in the competitions since 1989. We have a reputation since the early days of being one of the top competing team that achieved numerous podiums throughout our years. A little-known fact, since the beginning of the competitions, there has been only one team to achieve the 1st position in all three competitions during a year, and that team is us in 2005!
Every year, we design and build a completely new off-road vehicle that stands out in terms of looks, performance, and technology. The competition consists of the Static Events where we are judged based on our Design choices, the Cost of production for the vehicle as well as our Sales pitch. There are also the Dynamic Events like Acceleration, Suspension, Hill Climb, and Maneuverability. All these events lead to the final and biggest event, the Endurance Race, where all participating cars at competition race on an off-road track during 4 hours.
As stated earlier, our team puts a lot of effort in integrating technology into our design. During the 2017 season, we have achieved another first in the competition history, the first team to compete as well as win a competition with an electronically actuated continuously variable transmission, or as we call it an EVT. This technology is now patented to a company that our alumni have funded, name B-Cinq Technologies.
